Assist students with major selection, course selection, and registration process. Communicate accurate and timely information and interpret institutional and core and major requirements. Track student progress and provide appropriate interventions and contacts to help students becomes successful. Document advising contacts adequately. Assist students with making a successful transition to the University. Direct students to appropriate resources and programs when necessary. Manage undergraduate and graduate student caseload. Maintain accurate and complete student file documentation. Pre-clear and certify students for graduation.
Provide necessary information to program assistant for teacher education, field based and student teaching student application processing. Provide prospective graduate students with information on the status of their applications. Assist State Certification Testing Coordinator in checking eligibility.
Attend and participate in new student orientation programs. Participate in recruitment and advising of prospective students. Represent the College of Education and Human Development and assist with transfer student workshops, Commencement, Dean's List Receptions, and other student events.
Attend and participate in University wide academic advising meetings. Attend and participate in training and professional development events. Perform other duties as assigned.
Two (2) years of related experience in advising or working with students in higher education.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), databases, and spreadsheets.
Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability and willingness to work as a team member and to work independently.
Demonstrated initiative and follow-through skills; tact, diplomacy, and judgment in dealing with students, parents, faculty, and administrators.
Detail oriented and demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Experience advising students in higher education.
Experience with Banner, Argos, Starfish, and Degree Works.
Demonstrated knowledge of developmental academic advising methodologies.
